VETERANS AND ACTIVE DUTY MEMBERS BE SAFE

The Marion County Veterans Affairs Office assists former members of the United States Armed Forces and their families in filing a claim for benefits for which they may be entitled.  These claims include compensation  & pension benefits, VA healthcare enrollment, VA home loans, Life and Mortgage insurance, and burial benefits.  We also network with agencies throughout the community to aid the veteran/widow in obtaining additional assistance.

Frequently Asked Questions:
What types of disability payments are available?

There is service-connected compensation which is based on injury, illness or disability that incurred or aggravated while on active duty. Also, there is a non-service-connected pension, which is based on wartime service, the character of discharge, total disability/or age 65 and older, and the amount of countable annual household income.

Is medical assistance available?

Possibly.  It depends on family income and net worth, length of active duty service, and/or if the condition is rated service-connected by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

How do I know if I'm eligible for VA benefits?

Eligibility for benefits varies but is mainly based on active duty service (other than for training only) length and/or period of service, the character of discharge, degree of disability, and countable annual household income.
