A Brief History

BuildingResponsibility for the Detention Center changed to the Sheriff on July 1, 2014,  Prior to this, the Detention Center was under the  control of the County and County Administrator.  The current Detention Center was completed as part of the Marion County Law Enforcement Center in 1998.  The facility is currently designed to house a maximum of 96 inmates.  It is scheduled to undergo a renovation and expansion in 2021 with the addition of a medium security housing unit and an additional direct supervision housing unit.  The additional direct supervision housing unit will facilitate the closure of the County Prison Camp into the Detention Center.
