The mission of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center is to create a safe,  secure, and positive atmosphere for staff and inmates by promoting direct supervision principles, instilling proactive approaches to reduce recidivism rates of inmates, and to uphold the highest degree of professionalism.  The Detention Center will strive to create collaborative partnerships with all government agencies  within Marion County to provide the utmost degree of service to her citizens.  The Detention Center is committed to excellence by being responsive to the needs of the citizens and  the inmates under our custody and control.


James “Jimmy” Floyd was appointed as the Director of the Sheriff’s Office Detention Center in March of 2019.  Director Floyd began his career in  1989 with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office where he served for fourteen  years before departing.  He has over thirty years’ experience in the Law  Enforcement and Security fields.  Prior to returning to the Marion County  Sheriff’s Office as Director of Detention, he served with the Horry County  Police for three years and spent thirteen years deployed to Afghanistan where he provided security for the US State Department and the US Department of Defense.
